Laura Catignani: a woman capable of creating magic and making dreams come true through her hats
Once upon a time there was a magnificent woman named Laura .... there was she and the magic of her hats
There are people born to think , others born to create. They say that skill is only the result of commitment and dedication,
while that is true, we sometimes forget about the meaning of the word Gift. For you, what does it mean to have a gift?
For me it means being able to create something unique without effort. Only those who have thought of such ideas and implemented them with passion are truly the masters.
Today I want to talk to you about the gift of creation, the one that Laura Catignani possesses.
Did our paths cross by chance? I don't think so since I love hats and craftsmanship and she is an extraordinary creator of hats.
As of today we will work together and she will be my second partner in the Handmade project. Her story is unique, one of those stories that must be told.
Her story is full of colors, infinite possibilities of creation and a natural need to create with the hands ... but also a story of Magic, because despite her studies in Psychology, and a job in the social sector, Laura started on a new journey making eccentric costumes for a fire Circus and Burning Man. Shortly thereafter, she had the good fortune to meet a famous costume designer who recommended her for work at a prominent theater in Seattle.
One job led to the next and soon Laura moved to NYC and she found herself creating wonderful costumes for Broadway shows and the Rockettes. Studies at the Institute of Technology in New York fed her curiousity and led her to discover a new world of fabrics and other intriguing materials, much like a little girl in elementary school. Before long, one of her professors hired her to work with her at the Metropolitan Opera where she created both hats and costumes.
For some people it is difficult to understand how her inspiration arises. Her path, her studies, her travels, and the environments in which she worked certainly influenced her process of creation ... but her ability to understand how a hat can change an outfit or complete it is totally innate. One idea after another related to colors and shapes, and as they relate to the shapes of people’s faces and produce different styles, are all defining elements of the word talent.
Laura is a lover of travel and other cultures, and she finds the ability to use her creative skills as a way of relating personally to people to be incredibly fulfilling. A customer who wants to have a hat made is a customer who wants to express something of him or herself, and she wants to fulfill these wishes. The magic of being unique, having a little travel companion perched on our heads who warms us up, makes us chic and highlights our beauty.
Because in the end there is no one and there never will be anyone who looks just like us and fortunately, there are unique and extraordinary artisans like Laura, to whom we should always rely upon without hesitation.
